UPDATE: LOW RESOLUTION

UPDATE is a series of busts designed in 2012 by RERO in collaboration with Stéphane Parain. In XXL format, two sculptures are taking over the city of Metz. The creation of each work follows the same principle: a confrontation between the aesthetic codes of classical statuary and a set of terms borrowed from digital culture, written in capital letters and crossed out with a line. RERO explores contemporary contradictions and paradoxes.

UPDATE is a trail of monumental sculptures in public spaces, produced by the Gilles Treuil Endowment Fund and organised by Nicolas Couturieux in partnership with the City of Metz, as part of the Metz Constellations international festival.

Presented with the support of Herbeth estate agents.

Punchlines and aphorisms, unreliable images, semantic games, and the many contradictions of our times… At the confluence of urban practices and land art, inspired by Duchamp, Debord, and Roland Barthes, RERO questions the rhetoric of the image. The artist’s works have been shown at the Centre Pompidou, Cent Quatre, MAC/VAL, Fondation Vasarely, the Grand Palais, and MAC Bogota. His incredibly bold, outsize installations have taken root on the dunes of the Moroccan desert, in the heart of Latin America, and in the landscapes of California.
